Ongoing/Annual  projects --

Friends for the Annual Plant and Book Festival

PictureAlways in time to refresh your spring garden!
We are sorry to have had to cancel the 2020 Plant and Book Festival due to COVID-19.  It has left a huge gap in how we can support our Library.    Please see our   COVID-19 pages    to see how you can still provide much needed continued support.

Throughout the year, The Friends Volunteers put aside BOOKS for all ages and interests from those donated to the Library and typically include some rare and first edition books.   Generous sponsors donate PLANTS for indoors and outdoor gardens, and local businesses offer great  COUPONS.   All are available at the Festival  at our Library.

The Festival supports our own branch library and the proceeds buy additional library materials, expand programs and beautify the library.     The Plant and Book Festival is our primary fundraiser to provide that support.      This year we are especially grateful to our sponsor and contributors who continue to support The Friends    in spite of the necessary cancellation of the Festival.  Please   click here to see the list and join us in thanking them!

friends for our  lobby  books  (AKA Second Chance Books)
Lobby Books are closed until the Library can reopen.  Date to be determined

PictureLobbyBooks are a bargain!
The Spring Branch Memorial Library is a place to find the right book in more ways than one.  In addition to checking out a favorite best seller,  stop on their way in or out of the lobby to also check out the selection of books you can find on the carts and wall shelves.  Books donated to the library are carefully reviewed and sorted by a dedicated team of volunteers who pencil a suggested donation value on the inside of each volume.  Of course, this dollar amount is only a suggestion, and you are welcome to select a different amount for the books you want to take home.

The volunteers arrange books by genre – fiction, children’s, classics, travel, reference, mystery, etc. – but excited browsers do not always put things back where they found them.  And that’s OK!  Who knows where your next unexpected treasure will pop up!  Donations, check or cash,  should be left at the check-out desk inside the library.  The funds collected from donated books all go to the Friends of the Spring Branch-Memorial Library whose sole mission is to support the library, so your generosity is greatly appreciated.

And when you are finished with your selection, you can donate that book back so another patron can take it home and enjoy it!

friends for the annual buy-a-book program
Buy-A-Book will still provide gift opportunities !

PictureA book or two...or a whole shelf's worth!
The Buy-A-Book Program provides funds to the Library for our librarians to select books they know will be valuable to our collection.  This is not a direct-purchase program.

Every year in December, The Friends of the Spring Branch-Memorial Library ask for donations to add to our own Library's collection.  There are several levels of giving suggested which range from the cost to the Library of a book or two to the cost of an entire shelf of books.  The Library is funded by County funds, but our contributions make a big difference to what our own Library can offer.   When December comes around, keep the Library in your "giving" plan through the Friends' Buy-A-Book program.  (Scroll up after clicking on the link.)

To contribute in memory of a friend or a relative, or in honor of a friend, a relative or an event DURING THE REST OF THE YEAR, please  click this link  to go to the  Honoring and Remembering Others
page. You do not need to join as a Friend to make a commemorative contribution.  (Again, scroll up after clicking on the link, if necessary.)
