2017 Plant and Book Festival promises bargains and family fun

Friends of Spring Branch Memorial Library hosts its annual Plant and Book Festival, featuring a wide selection of books and plants, coupons for area businesses and children’s activities on Friday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Gently used children’s books and adult fiction and nonfiction, from cooking and history to religion and the classics, will be available at bargain prices. Meanwhile, this is a great opportunity to replace plants lost in the freeze or spruce up the garden with the wonderful deals in the plant sale, including bedding, flowering, exotic, indoor and outdoor plants and hanging baskets. A silent auction features rare books, including President George W. Bush's "Decision Points," a signed copy of William Sterling’s “Trails and Trials of a Texas Ranger,” and a beautiful, first edition copy of Larry McMurtry’s “Custer.” Additionally, there will be a sale of coupons and gift certificates for local businesses and restaurants. With H-E-B’s Buddy making an appearance with children’s activities and refreshments from nearby Sweet Tomatoes, the event makes for a great visit for the whole family. “The Friends of the Spring Branch Memorial Library Annual Book and Plant Festival is an opportunity for gardeners to put some spring color in their yards, for readers to find their next favorite book and for everyone to catch up with neighborhood friends while benefitting the wonderful community resource that is our local library,” said Fran Serena, president of Friends of the Spring Branch Memorial Library. Proceeds from the event are used to buy materials, such as e-books and children’s books, and for summer programming and beautification of the library, which is part of the Harris County Library System.
